The news comes amid a spike in COVID-19 cases across Massachusetts but concentrated in the eastern part of the state. Reports of 1,000 new COVID-19 cases each day have become common in the last week.
Gov. Charlie Baker announced the plan on Monday, Nov. 2. The new stay-at-home advisory will take effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Restaurants should stop table service at 9:30 p.m., under the governor’s orders, according to MassLive.
The curfew advisory will go into effect at 12:01 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6. There will be exceptions for things like going to work, medical emergencies, grocery trips, picking up take-out, etc.
In addition to the curfew, Baker is rolling back how many people can get together at a private event - 10 people inside, 25 if it's outside.
Everyone is also now required to wear a mask when out and about. The old advisory said people should wear masks if they are less than 6 feet away from others.
It is not clear how the new advisory will be enforced at this time.
